Free Plus-Size Sweater Knitting Patterns
A third post filled with free plus-size knitting patterns, featuring cardigan and pullover sweaters
Since I took over KnittingforCharity.org, I’ve received quite a few requests for plus-sized knitting patterns. I have posted a few collections already; here you’ll find a general selection of plus-sized patterns; here you’ll find a collection of plus-sized sweater coats and jackets.
Today I decided to narrow my search down to sweaters. In this collection you’ll find both pullovers and cardigans; you’ll find plainer sweaters and sweaters with colorwork or cables; and you’ll find short-sleeved and long-sleeved sweaters.
Free Plus-Sized Knitting Patterns
Gemini: Here’s the first of the short-sleeved sweater patterns, although this is more of a T-shirt pattern than a sweater pattern. It features a cute lace panel along the yoke that can be worn either forward or backward, depending on whether you’d like a dressy or more casual look.
Simple Summer Tweed Top Down V-Neck: Need the most basic V-neck pullover without all the fuss of cables or lace or colorwork? This is your pattern.
Buttercup: This lovely little sweater features A-line styling and a touch of lace. It offers several options; you can make the sleeves short or longer (or MUCH longer), and you can even turn it into a dress.
Minetta: This is a relatively simple-looking cardigan with a bit of cabling down the front and back center. A true beauty.
Idunn: This is a beautiful cardigan with a simple yet gorgeous colorwork design at the yoke. Named after Iðunn, the Norse goddess of apples and youth.
Smithfield: This cozy, long pullover is designed to be a little (or a lot) oversized, with a mock turtleneck and lots of texture.
Summer Feeling: This is a sweater dress with a romantic side: lacy details at the yoke and hem, cap sleeves, a wide neckline and a swingy skirt.
Lempster: Want a pullover with some spice? This sweater has it aplenty: two different types of cables and some eyelet lace in the center.
Striped (or Not) Cardigan Option: This pattern, designed by Amy Herzog, was created as a knitalong where knitters could choose from a variety of options. The options include stripes or solid, cardigan or pullover. If you choose stripes, you can choose how those stripes are placed and the width you want. It’s one pattern with a crazy variety of options!
Is there a variety of plus-sized garments you would like to see more patterns for? Let me know! And in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this collection of plus-sized sweater patterns.
